Sri Lanka Cricket Faces Immediate ICC Suspension

Sri Lanka Cricket Faces Immediate ICC Suspension

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken immediate action, suspending Sri Lanka Cricket from its membership. This decision follows a breach of obligations by the SLC, notably failing to uphold autonomous management without governmental interference, as outlined in the ICC's membership criteria.

According to the ICC's released statement on Friday, the specifics of the suspension's conditions will be determined by the ICC Board in the coming days. A meeting scheduled for November 21 will likely shed light on the future steps to be taken.

This suspension arrives amid Sri Lanka's planned hosting of the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup in January and February 2024.

Adding to the situation, the Sri Lankan men's team encountered a challenging period during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. With only two victories out of nine matches and a total of four points, they currently occupy the eighth position in the points table, with three more matches yet to be played in the league phase.
